Camping and Portable Gas Grills

Wood, matches and a lot of hope is what campers of the past had available to them in the form of a way to prepare food. Camping has been made much easier now with the invention of the portable gas grill. These grills come in a variety of sizes, styles, weight and BTU’s.

Stainless steel seems to be one of the more popular materials that gas grills are made from these days. While they tend to be a bit heaver than other materials they do tend to cook the food more evenly.

Many of the portable grills are made for use on a table top but there are some makes that have legs that fold up when the grill needs moved or packed away. They also come with a little bottle for propane gas. These little tanks are light in weight and so much easier to travel with than the bulkier ones that come with a normal gas grill. When choosing a tank size with the portable gas grill the BTU makes a difference. The higher the BTU rates the faster the cooking time.

Portable gas grills are also excellent for warming water for coffee on those brisk camping mornings. With the invention of coffee pouches and the portable gas grill the camper can now have a cup of coffee that tastes exactly like fresh brewed coffee from any electric coffee maker.

Food that is prepared on normal gas grills can also be made on the portable gas grills. Many portable grills come with more than one cooking rack. The more racks that a grill has the easier it is to cook more than one item at a time. Foil packed foods are almost a necessity of a true camping meal. The portable gas grill can make these types of foods with ease.

Stone Outdoor Fireplaces Make A Wonderful Addition To Your Yard

I recently visited a friend who had completely remodeled and landscaped his yard this summer. One of my favorite parts of his whole remodel is the beautiful outdoor stone fireplace. It has a durable, earthy look and it was so cozy sitting around it in the evening enjoying good conversation and some refreshments. It’s one of the most fun additions I’ve seen.

Stone outdoor fireplaces are becoming more and more common and it’s easy to understand why. They help increase your living space, making your outdoor area more comfortable like your indoor area except you have a ceiling of stars above you with the fresh air and the sounds of the outdoors instead of the tv in the background. They really do make a wonderful addition to any home.

Guide to Camping Cooking Supplies

The Dutch oven is one of the greatest items to come along as far as camping cooking supplies go in the past 100 years. These ovens are the most versatile and helpful camp cooking items you’ll ever see. The easiest way to use your Dutch oven is to use it like a slow cooker and make a stew. Just throw all of your ingredients into the pot – some meat, veggies, spices and flavorings, and water – and then put the oven on the edge of your campfire. Put some coals around it and make sure everything is stable – you don’t want anything tipping over – and then you’re set. Come back in a few hours and the stew will be piping hot and ready to go. Delicious food is never more than a few hours away.

Treatment For Mild Angular Cheilitis

If you or your child or teenager has a developed a mild Angular Cheilitis case, one that hasn’t yet developed into the characteristic painful and horrid-looking cracked mouth corners with accompanying swelling, redness, bleeding, and crusty recurring scabs, then you can try a couple of simple common sense methods for ending the bout.

1. For the milder cases in children and teenagers with chapped lips and mouth corner cracks, encourage them to refrain from licking their lips.

Lip licking in children and teens can become an unconscious habit that is hard to break. The continuous lip licking sometimes brings on the onset of Angular Cheilitis especially during the cold winter months when the kids are outdoors.

2. Apply protective paraffin-based ointments like petroleum jelly and lip balms to the lips and especially the mouth corners. This is normally very effective for treating the less serious cases of chapped lips and split mouth corners.

Military MREs Bring a Slice of Home to Soliders

I am very proud of the service the military is doing in Afghanistan and I often think about all the comforts they are missing back home.  There are such simple things like missing your favorite foods.  I know that the military tries hard to cater to the needs of the soldiers to make sure they get the nutrition they need. Among the vast improvements include the field rations they distribute called MREs.  Looking at the military MREs and what they have on menu, it does seem like a slice of home.  They have good standbys like meatloaf, spaghetti, lasagna and sloppy joes.  It might not seem like much but I think these familiar foods in a foreign country makes it seem like you’re closer to home.  It’s the least we can do for the people serving our country.
