29 Jul 2009A homemade rat trap is an inexpensive and safe alternative to hiring an exterminator or laying down highly toxic rat poison. Using a few basic materials available at any hardware store, you can quickly and easily build a trap that will end your rodent infestation. First, you will need an adhesive, such as a slow-drying glue or epoxy. Using a spatula, spread the adhesive in a thick, solid layer across the top of an 8″ by 8″ piece of thick cardboard or wood. Bait the trap by placing a spoonful of peanut butter or a piece of bacon in the center of the cardboard or wood square. Finally, place the trap in a location that rats are known to frequent. Monitor your trap regularly, and discard it when a rat becomes trapped in the adhesive.
