a wealth of information to feed your curiosity

1 Jun 2009Before you embark on any track lighting project, you need to know that not all the fixtures and fittings you will come across will be standardized. There are essentially 3 different standards developed by different manufacturers (Lightolier, Juno and Halo) when monorail track lighting was first introduced. My advice would be to choose one of the manufacturers standards and stick with it, because when it comes time to buy a replacement part or two, it will makes things much simpler.
As well as the three main standards there are some propriety systems that have been introduced by some of the larger home improvement stores. I would recommend avoiding these tracks, they are cheap yes, but generally the quality is really bad and their life span is relatively short – your best bet is to stick with one of the three main manufacturers.
