The Floor in the Breakfast Nook

Even though the breakfast nook is technically a separate room from the kitchen, it would probably be a good idea to just continue the flooring you have in your kitchen into this area with no break. The main reason, is that the breakfast nook is where you eat and the floor is very likely to get crumbs and food on it from time to time and you want to be able to clean it easily. Kitchen floors are usually something that can be mopped and the breakfast nook should be the same. The reason there should not be a break is so that you can clean the two rooms without having to break. If the floor just continues and you do not have to deal with a runner or some other obstacle it is much easier to clean. Popular choice for breakfast nook flooring are tile, linoleum, or wood. Choices that would not work well are carpet or stone. Stone absorbs liquids and it is possible the liquid could get under the stone and start to rot and smell. Carpet stains easily and is hard to clean up spills.
