Travel and Movies

It takes a firm hand to keep society rolling. I’m not talking about greasing the cogs in the machine either I mean, quite literally, rolling. With high gas prices and a down economy it’s not always easy to convince people that new experiences are worth their time and, more importantly, their money. Lucky for the travel industry, we have just the metaphorical firm hand we need in the guise of movies about travel. It’s these films, budgets be damned, that show us that there are adventures out there that are worth pursuing. It is, by definition, the counterpoint to the bliss of ignorance. Without these movies to tell us there is something worth seeing out there then why should any of us ever leave our homes. Without these 24 frame per second explorers we would all be sitting in blacksmith shops talking about how the world ends three blocks up from 148th street anyway so we might as well make ourselves comfortable. Now we know there’s something more exciting out there, if we’re willing to walk those extra three blocks.
